She was born to a Bengali father and an Irish mother.

She was first noticed and convinced by an actor and director T. Rajender for doing the role of ‘Bharat Natyam dancer’ in his movie ‘Mythili Ennai Kaathali’ in 1986.

Before marriage, she did movies- ‘Siva'(1989) and ‘Nirnayam'(1991) along with her husband Nagarjuna.
