Dr. Beena Philip, fondly called as Beena teacher, is the current mayor of Kozhikode district where LDF continued its administration for the 46th consecutive year. She is the 4th woman to hold the position. Dr Beena Philip was the the principal at Nadakkavu Government Girls Vocational Higher Secondary School and Azchavattom Government Higher Secondary School. She used to take classes in parenting and learning strategy. She was part of the team that started the Spectrum Project in Nadakkavu school, which marked the changing face of government schools.
Beena contested as the CPI (M) candidate and won with a majority or 652 votes. She defeated Congress backed independent candidate Lijeena Sajeev.
