Hemant Birje

Hemant Birje is a veteran Indian actor and a politician too. His good looks and attractive physique helped him in winning Mr. India contest in 1982. Before starting his career as an actor, he used to work as a security guard officer. The director of the Bollywood film, ‘Adventures of Tarzan’ (1985), B Subhash wanted to cast some A-list actor in this film, but when he saw Hemant in the security guard officer’s uniform, he instantly decided to cast Hemant as the Tarzan. He has acted in many Hindi films, like ‘Tahkhana’ (1986), ‘Veerana’ (1988), ‘Commando’ (1988), ‘Kabrastan’ (1988), ‘Maar Dhaad’ (1988), ‘Sindoor Aur Bandook’ (1989), ‘Chandaal’ (1998), ‘Kaun Kare Kurbanie’ (1991), and ‘Garv: Pride and Honour’ (2005). It is said that Hemant was probably the first Indian male actor who did a few intimate scenes on screen in the era of the ’80s. Reportedly, he used to be shy during the initial three months of his training for his character Tarzan in the Bollywood film, ‘Adventures of Tarzan’ (1985). Apart from Hindi films, he has also tried his luck in South Indian films. He has contested from Shiv Shakti Party for the Mumbai North Central constituency in the Lok Sabha elections (2014).
