ControversyOn 11 January 2008, a Hindu organisation in Chennai 'Hindu Makkal Katchi' (HMK) filed a police complaint against Shriya, objecting to the outfit worn by her during the 175th-day celebration of the film Sivaji: The Boss. Shriya appeared in the event wearing a deep necked and short dress. Actor Rajinikanth and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi were also present at the event. The Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) filed a complaint against Shriya for offending Hindu culture.
Later, in an interview, she apologised, she said,
I was unaware of the repercussions that would arise because of the attire I wore during the function. I came to know about the silver jubilee function while shooting for a Hindi film in Thanjavur. I came to the function directly from the shooting spot.” [5]
